Farmer Beau's Farm by Kathleen Geiger is a children's book meant for children of ages 6-12 years. As the title suggests, the story is set on a farm owned by Farmer Beau and his wife Bamma.

One day as Farmer Beau worked in his farmyard, he spotted six little kittens playing about. He took a break from his work and sat on the patio then invited his wife, Bamma, to come and join him. They sat there watching the kittens and instantly fell in love with them. As the days went by, they would leave some food outside for the kittens for the kittens. Eventually, the kittens grew up and started leaving one by one until only one was left.

Farmer Beau and Bamma hoped that this kitten would stay and make its home on the farm. To their delight, this kitten stayed and they named her Kitten Kailey. Kailey then went on to make an unlikely friend, a bunny named Samantha Bunny. The two friends lived together in the barn, until Farmer Beau brought home an unusual creature. Their new housemate was nothing like they had ever seen before and from its features, it was evident that it didn't belong on a farm. This strange creature cried often but Kitten Kailey and Samantha Bunny tried to make her feel welcome and eventually, everyone got along.

This book tackles themes of love, friendship, acceptance and kindness. When Farmer Beau first saw the Kittens, he would have chased them away but decided to be kind and care for them. This is an important lesson for children, especially those who have or wish to have pets. How the animals interact with one another also shows that no matter our physical differences, we can still coexist and make each other feel welcome.

At a length of only 8 standard pages, Farmer Beau's farm is a fun and easy book to read. The vocabulary is simple and the illustrations minimal, which leaves more text for the reader. This could help children practice reading continuously. I think the simplistic nature of children's books makes them suitable for those trying to learn a new language and I'm glad that this one did not disappoint. Anyone who lives in or grew up on a farm could relate to this book. The happy ever after ending also carries an important lesson that no matter the situation, with a bit of effort, all will be well.

I chose to review this book based on the description which says that the author's grandchildren were involved in creating the characters hence the unusually colored animals. I found this quite heartwarming. I couldn't find any typos in this book and because I enjoyed it so much, I will rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

Nice review, thank you! I think my 4-year-old daughter would love this story. We have two cats, so anything with kittens is a must. I'm guessing that the new addition to the farm is a baby...? If so, that could make this a great book for children adjusting to new siblings in the house. My nephew just became a big brother 3 days ago and he is rather attached to his mama. That message might do well for him.

As an avid lover of this genre, Farmer Beau's Farm is a must read for me. I like the themes of love, acceptance and kindness which Kathleen Geiger embeds in this interesting story. Good job, on the review, Mercy Bolo.
