Review of NICO
Nico by Marlene Rattigan is a children's book with colorful illustrations that vary from animate to inanimate objects. It seeks to entertain and teach more about the sulphur-crested cockatoo of Australian origin.
Kim and her friends create a valued audience for Nico, and he loves entertaining them. Even when Kim begins going to school, Nico doesn't mind. However, during the summer, Kim and her mother go to the flower shop, leaving him behind, and this is traumatizing for him.
However, Kim convinces her mother that they could go with Nico. Nico loves that he entertains many people in the flower shop until he sees Kim get on a train, leaving him behind. He wasn't going to let this happen! Hastily, he follows Kim as the doors almost close on him. However, that was not Kim. Nico is now on a moving train with strangers. Will he ever get to see Kim again?
Nico is an amazing character. His personality shows how much he adores his owner. He is entertaining as well as loving. His reactions when left behind and how much he loves being around people show how much care and love our pets need. He understood that Kim had to go to school, but the summers were long, and he needed someone to stay with.
Nico's beauty as a suphur-crested cockatoo was beautifully captured by the illustrator. The flower shop and the strangers on the train added diversity to the book. As the people on the train were confused about this strange bird, their facial expressions were notable. These illustrations will create a vivid picture and a fondness that is hard to erase from the reader's mind.
Nico loves to entertain and be around people, and Kim understood this. She could tell that Nico became lonely when left alone in the house. She improved and corrected the problem Nico was facing, took him out of the house to go with them, and even took him out of the cage in the flower shops so he could entertain the people. It is a clear depiction of getting to understand others, including our pets, and caring for them in the best way we can.
I disliked nothing in this wonderful book. I rate Nico by Marlene Rattigan 5 out of 5 stars. The author's grammar was spot on, and the intended purpose of the book was fulfilled. I had not learned about the sulphur-crested cockatoo prior to this. Neither had I known about their origins or their behavior. Children have a good chance of learning about this rare bird in this book while having fun with the illustrations.
