Nico is a children's story written by Marlene Rattigan. It tells us about a sulphur-crested cockatoo named Nico. This bird, so cute and talented, lives with Kim and her mother, and he really likes to entertain Kim and her friends. Unfortunately, all the fun and excitement abruptly ended during the summer holidays. Kim would be spending almost all her time with her mother at the flower shop, meaning that Nico would be left home alone, and this was not a nice experience for Nico. Could anything be done to help him?

Reading this story filled me with warmth and delight. I really had a great time reading about this lovely bird with so much talent doing all he can to make life fun and comfortable for those around him. The bonding between him and his companions is natural and shows the power and magic of positive energies. I caught myself pondering just how amazing the world can be if we can involve ourselves in even the littlest act that can make the neighbor next door and our environment even a bit better.

There are so many lessons to learn from this story, for example, the universality of love. It's wonderful to see Nico spreading love in his own little way by giving the passengers on the train some great laughter, positivity, and entertainment, and to see the passengers respond favorably. Nico doing this at home and on the train shows that love is not space-bound and that loving is a choice. Anyone, even animals, can love and can understand acts of love. This is my favorite takeaway from this story.

I didn't dislike anything in this book. The narrative is well-crafted: the language is simple, the story is complemented with bright illustrations that make reading more memorable, the text is thoroughly proofread, the ending is satisfying, and the story highlights positive values that will impact children in a great way. Considering all these, I am delighted to rate Nico 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to every child.
