Mouse Trax by M.H. Dixon is a children’s book about a mouse called Another Mouse. He got his name because he was the last of 17 mice born to his parents, and they had run out of name ideas. He had learned how to read in the library where he lived, which made him very curious. His curiosity gets him in trouble one day when he leaves the house and becomes lost. On his journey, he meets One Louse Too Many, who helps him try to find his way home. What dangers will these two travelers encounter? Does Another Mouse find his way back home?

I enjoyed the author’s writing style because they interspersed poetry throughout the narrative. My favorite one was about the spring season. The chapter titles let me know what each chapter was about. Courage and friendship are just two valuable lessons children will learn from this book. Chatterbox’s bad jokes are just one of the examples of humor in this book. I will think about this book the next time a maple tree’s helicopter leaves fall into my yard. Locations with names like “Mashed Potato Pass” demonstrate the author’s vivid imagination.

Adding illustrations to this book would bring more joy to younger children, who enjoy looking at illustrations as books are read to them. Since this is a personal preference, it does not impact my rating.

I found no reason not to give this well-written and professionally edited book 5 out of 5 stars. It contains many lessons for children to learn from. As I stated earlier, the only negative aspect I found was the lack of illustrations, but this did not detract from my reading experience and is not a reason to deduct any stars.

I recommend this book to anyone over ten who enjoys fantasy adventures. Some of the words in the story may be difficult for younger children to understand.
