Toni the Superhero by R. D. Base is a picture book for children. It features a young boy, Toni, who is introduced as a superhero. But as we flip the pages, we find that Toni is also a regular boy; he seems to find joy in doing normal and helpful things for his family and with his friends. No characters are named except the titular character, Toni.

The pages feature simple words and sentences, with the very last page containing the book’s only compound sentence. The illustrations of Toni doing various activities were vivid and attractive. I appreciated that the illustrations contained other characters, demonstrating that even superheroes need people (and animals) around them. This lesson is especially crucial for young children. Kids need to learn, as early as possible, that other people are also important. The book also demonstrates that people who do normal things with joy and gratitude are special.

My favorite thing about this book is that it will encourage children to be collaborative and helpful to those around them, especially their family members and friends. The author mentioned that this book targets very young children aged 0-4, and I think that this book is ideal for them. An adult should read the book to a child to create a more interactive and immersive experience for the child.

If I had to point out any downside to this book, it would be that it is a really short book. But there are other books to look forward to that feature Toni doing various activities. Moreover, children typically have a short attention span, so a short book with beautiful pictures will be best for them. I rate Toni the Superhero 5 out of 5 stars. I removed no stars because there was no real negative side to the book. The editing was also flawless.
