“What Did You Do at School Today?” by C.C. Lavacera is a beautiful book that inspires both children and parents to talk about what happens during the school day. Filled with beautiful colors and great questions, this book is sure to be a hit. I read it with my almost three-year-old and it made her even more excited than she already is for school. Filled with all the different things children do at school from sports, shapes, arts and crafts, music, playtime with friends, the alphabet, numbers, and imaginative play, this book provides so much for parents and children to talk about. The book also does such a great job of going through not just the many things children will see at school, but also the different people they will come into contact with.

This book is best geared toward preschoolers, due to all the colors and little words on the page. It is also great for parents of preschoolers, as it can be such a fun book for parents and caregivers to read with their children and start a conversation about their day. Kindergarten and above can handle many more words, but this could be a great book for children as they are trying to read themselves.

My favorite part of this book is all the cultural representations. Having so many different cultures represented makes it available for all children, as every child could see someone who reminds them of themselves. This is a beautiful representation of all the diversity that schools have.

There is nothing in the book that I dislike; because of that I am going to give the book 5 out of 5 stars. It was also flawlessly edited, as I found no errors. I highly recommend it for all parents and children to be able to encourage both the love of reading and increasing dialogue between families.
