Batty Wings by Marlene Rattigan is a children's book. JJ and Mia notice grandmother's loose underarms. This is a funny predicament for any grandmother. Instead of being shocked, Nanna took this opportunity to delight her grandchildren with a whimsical tale.

Nanna tells the grandchildren that she is not only a grandmother but also, that she has a talent she had never shared with them. Her talent protects them during the night. What could it be? How does she do this? Is it magic; can they see her do this amazing thing she can do? Readers will read the book to find out.

This is a book that would be a great bedtime story. Children may like to discuss the story. It would be fun to imagine other older-age talents that Nanna could do. Maybe 'eagle eye' glasses, or 'ultrasonic' hearing aids, and how about a 'magic wand' cane? This could open more conversations about older people and how wonderful they are. I loved how Nanna included the children in her story and how her talent helped her protect them. She assured them that this discovery of Nanna’s newfound appearance is nothing to be afraid of; because it is a good thing, a talent, and she uses her talent to protect them while they sleep. By giving the children this explanation, they can go to bed remembering that Nanna is protecting them.

The book is illustrated with beautiful colors and comical drawings. Each page of artwork flawlessly depicts the storyline. It is a book that a child can quickly memorize and speak the words along with the reader. This book will be a nice addition to any child’s bedtime book collection and will surely entertain readers of any age.

There were no typos. It is professionally edited. There was nothing that I disliked about the book. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I hope the author will have more stories about JJ and Mia's Nanna in the future.
