If you are a parent or nanny, you know those moments when you have to agree with the kids that there is actually a monster in the room and have to devise a convincing means to drive it away. You know how frustrating those moments can be, especially when you are just not in a good mood. But you also know how you giggle afterwards when you reminisce on the ridiculous things you had to do to save the day.

In Batty Wings by Marlene Rattigan, Nanna had to think quick, really quick, when one of her grandchildren asked her why her skin was loose. She claims her loose skin is her batty wings! And she claims she can do magic and can turn into a bat at night. She goes on to inform the kids what she does at night, holding them in utter wonder. But can she prove her claims? Can she take a video of herself while flying at night, and if she can't herself, can she allow someone else to take the video?

I enjoyed reading this story, and I have no complaints to report about it. I think I share a similar attitude with Nanna. I grinned when Nanna looked around before answering. I could tell from those quick glances and the whisper that she was up to some tricks. The kids' curiosity warmed my heart. Furthermore, I was fascinated by the quality of the illustrations. They perfectly reflected the emotion in the story and added to the story's overall appeal. I must commend Sergio Drumond for doing a great job.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars because it was interesting, thoroughly proofread, well illustrated and easy to read. From my experience reading this story, I am confident that every child will find Batty Wings by Marlene Rattigan delightful.
