Olga De Sousa has created a truly unique, fun, and educational book with A Rhyming Book of Creatures and their Fascinating Features! I have three young children, between the ages of 2 and 7. All three of them loved this book. The first half of the book is a list of 26 animals, one for each letter of the alphabet. Each animal is given a page that includes a poem, a picture, and a short blurb with some interesting facts. The second half of the book is filled with activity pages that are both fun and educational. Again, all three of my children loved every part of this book. In fact, the activity pages almost caused a fight because all three of them wanted to do every activity!

There were a few areas for improvement. I saw one very minor punctuation error, and the verbiage can be a little complicated, so early readers might struggle to read this book without a parent helping them out. Some of the activity pages included matching and multiple-choice sections, where kids can circle the correct animal, etc. On these pages, some of the choices include little illustrations of the animals, but others don’t. This was a little disappointing for me—I would have loved to see an illustration for each animal in those sections. Notably, my kids didn’t care that some pictures were missing. They were just excited by the pictures that were there.

Whenever I read a children’s book, the ultimate guide to my rating is how well my children enjoy it. Three tiny thumbs up, in this case, translates to a five out of five star rating for A Rhyming Book of Creatures and their Fascinating Features! If you are a parent looking for a fun and educational new book for your children, I’d highly suggest you give this one a try.
