There is a lot that can be gained from working together and peaceful coexistence. In this book, titled Donny, Mary Grace, and the Ugly Marbles, written by Catherine A. Pepe, we get to see if Donny, his sister and his friend Ed can solve another mystery.

Donny, who is five years old and his sister Mary Grace are bored while visiting their Great Grandma Gigi, who is playing her bridge game with the grandma gang. They both decide to go for a walk. They encounter Mr. Brown, the front desk manager, who asks them to help deliver a package to Ed’s room. Out of curiosity, Donny notices that the package is slightly open and looks inside to discover a Chinese Checkers game, but oddly, it contains ugly marbles. This leads them to try to uncover why these packages contain these odd marbles. Will they be able to solve this mystery and will the grandma gang get involved?

Donny, Mary Grace, and the Ugly Marbles is a book that discusses the main characters: Donny, who has Down syndrome; his older sister, Mary Grace; and Ed, a young boy with special needs. The book's flow is okay, and it is engaging enough that I was not confused about the characters, who were properly introduced. I like that the book talks about people learning to accept others' beliefs and also the importance of family. There are other characters like Papa Steve, La Shana, Jacob, Rose, and more. There are moral lessons that both adults and children could learn from this book, and it explores themes of family, learning, tradition and many more.

I do not have any dislikes for this book. It contains no errors, which shows exceptional editing, and because of my positive experience reading this book, I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to children between the ages of 7 and 11 and people who enjoy conversations about respect and community.
