Title: Cane the Weather Dog
Author: Scott Withers
Illustrations: Juliet Frost

What a delightful book for young children! It features a small dog, the protagonist, and his owner, referred to as 'Daddy’. They travel around North America chasing storms, blizzards, and tornadoes. His owner is a TV weatherman or meteorologist.

As I read the book, it's lovely to open the pages to constant colour and atmosphere. The illustrations are well composed using bright colours for the subjects, which small children will recognise. The expressions are happy, and the weather conditions are painted well.

It is a North American book, and so many children across the world may not be accustomed to the scenes, such as the swirling tornadoes or bright white snowstorms, which might spark an interest and prompt further thought. It might even lead to a career in meteorology in the long term!

The prose has been kept simple and easy to read. I like the way sentences have been grouped together into paragraphs, which is, perhaps, a new challenge for those new to reading. If the child cannot read yet, then this would be a good book to read out loud, with the different weather aspects creating a subject for discussion and even a visit to the window to see what is happening outside in the sky.

All in all, this is a good book for a young child. It is interesting and relatable, with an uplifting tone. Cane and his owner explore their environment, which is something that many families do, thereby creating a love of nature and all things around them, which is not a bad thing.

Children in hot countries can compare their weather to the weather conditions in the book, sparking an interest in their climate.

With an illustration on every page, this book will be enjoyed by children, giving them food for thought. The editing was perfect, and the book was of an adequate length. I see no reason not to award it five stars out of five.
