Shadow’s Adventure Home by Kathy Kovar is a five-out-of-five-star book that is perfect for the whole family! I loved reading it with my children, and they enjoyed following along with the illustrations as I read. There is everything to love and nothing to dislike in this story.

It is well written and edited, lacking any noticeable errors in spelling or grammar. The writing makes it easy for anyone to read aloud and simple for others to follow or listen along. The illustrations add a perfect touch to help depict the adventure and make it more accessible to all family members. The fact that it is based on true events also makes this book an instant favorite for pet lovers of all ages.

This sweet and simple story follows the adventures of Shadow, the family cat. After a family move and an exciting escape outside, Shadow has many experiences in this new world and my family loved following along. It kept my family eagerly waiting to see what would happen next and warmed everyone’s heart as they rooted for Shadow along the way.

Kovar uses every opportunity to connect with the reader, including the fun font, the charming illustrations, and, of course, the voice of Shadow himself.
The author uses Shadow’s unique perspective to set the scene and get the reader instantly hooked. The flow of the story holds the reader’s attention throughout the entire adventure. The book is written in a way that makes it easy to read to others and keeps everyone—especially children—engaged all the way through to the end.

Kovar pulls at every pet lover’s heartstrings from the first page, with Shadow at home with his family. As listeners ride along on his adventures, they find themselves rooting for Shadow. The ending is exactly what every reader hopes for—a perfect, well-rounded moment of peace and comfort.

Overall, Shadow’s Adventure Home is an enjoyable read suited to every family’s heart and bookshelf.
