Being different can be a hard thing to understand as a child, and it gets even harder when you are treated unfairly because of it. In Freddy Finds a Friend by Charles W. Page, MD, children can understand that standing out can be a strength.

Freddy is a little fly who is born without a wing. He was mocked by the other flies in the swarm because he cannot fly, and this made him feel so lonely and wish to be part of the club or have a friend who is kind and faithful. Freddy’s parents decided to take him to a flychiatrist wishing he could learn how to think but Fred is not out of his mind. His dad decides to build him a fly jacket. Finally, Freddy can fly with the help of his fly jacket. He joins other flies and then finds himself in an old, creepy man’s place. Would Freddy's first flight get him in trouble?

I really enjoyed reading Freddy Finds a Friend by Charles W. Page, MD, because it’s a fun and creative story with lots of rhymes and engaging characters. I admire Freddy’s courage because despite being different and left out, he never gave up. I like that the book teaches readers not to judge others by their looks, as seen in Phyllis the spider, who looks scary at first but turns out to be kind. I like that the book talks about adventure, and children will learn a lot of lessons about kindness, friendship and believing in themselves. I like that this book shows that being unique is actually a strength, not a weakness. The illustrations are colorful and would keep children engaged while reading.

I have no dislike for this book and I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to parents and children aged 6-11. I encountered no errors, which shows the book was well edited.
