Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is the seventh book in the Inca Cat Detective series by R.F Kristi. The story revolves about the life and adventures of a cat named Inca. It is very amazing to learn that this cat has a family comprising of; her mom, her sister Cara, Fromage her brother, Florence her aunt and she equally has a friend named, Charlotte.
Inca’s family reign from Paris but they stay in London. Inca proclaims herself as the queen of kitties and at the same time, she is the boss at a detective agency named, Inca and Company. The adventures of Inca started on the day her mother took her and all the other siblings for a holiday to Galle, Sri Lanka. While in Galle, they discover that some weapons are missing in a museum. Inca, Solo, Terrance, Meena, Mama, Rani and the elephants join hands in solving this puzzle about theft. Inca’s adventures are dangerous and they involve encountering dangerous animals such as; tiger, monkeys and python.
The author uses first person’s point of view to narrate the story. The cat is the character that takes up the work of narration. I loved how the author creates very beautiful illustrations when telling the story. The vivid narration and description of characters is equally perfect and will not disappoint readers. Inca is such a protective cat that protects her family and friends. Kristi adds some new words which serve as a great stepping stone towards the development of children’s level of vocabulary.
In order to make illustrations perfect, the author uses colorful pictures that are closely related to the narrations thus making the story a great intrigue. This story promotes unity and socialization among youngsters. I think that this is very great in developing our children to be responsible people in the society of today. The use of animal characters make this book appear to be like a cartoon thus many children will sail smoothly through the story.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars since it has met the highest levels. This book has few drawbacks such as the inclusion of dangerous adventures whereby Inca meets; tiger, snake, and monkeys. I think that this can make children fear and even terrified. Another notable drawback is whereby some picture-illustrations does not show what the author is narrating on the respective pages on which they appear. All in all, these are not major issues and so it has no impact on the book’s standards. Parents, please strive to buy for your child a copy of Serendipity Mystery.
