SERENDIPITY MYSTERY
Serendipity Mystery is a children's adventurous book about Inca, a Siberian detective cat. Inca is the head detective at Inca & Company Detective Agency. She works with her colleagues - Fromage, her brother, her sister, Cara, Monk, an intelligent blue Russian cat, Charlotte, their hamster friend, Terrance, a dog detective by profession and Polo, an excitable Pekinese pup. Inca is about to start enjoying a family vacation in the beaches of Sri Lanka when a local museum needs detective help to solve a crime.
The first thing that draws you towards this book is the cover picture. A cat, sitting on a beach chair in the sand, behind it a deep blue ocean, and looking through a magnifying glass in its hand. I am already curious to know what mystery is about to erupt in this beautiful setting.
One thing about children's books is the ease in reading and following through a story. Serendipity Mystery is no exception. The book uses easy writing technique which makes it easy for children to understand the story. For younger children, an adult can easily read the story out and lucky for them, they have the picture illustrations to go with it.
I enjoyed the animal personification very much. I forgot for a moment how these animals are really like in real life. This part I believe children will enjoy also. The idea of little animals having the same kind of fun as them and even being able to speak is very exciting.
Children make new friends and bond very easily. This is portrayed when Inca meets new friends like the elephant and the turtle. The adventure then begins.
The part I like most about the story is what the adventure is about. When something valuable goes missing, finding it can be very exciting. I was eager to know how they would do it, who was going to play which role, what tricks they would use in finding the valuables and most of all, where it would be found.
I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. It seems to have been professionally edited and without any grammar errors. It is a great read and children below thirteen years of age will enjoy it. However, I am an adult and I did enjoy too.
I did not like that there was not much activity at the beach yet it is something that I would have really liked to see. Otherwise there might not have been any point in setting the story in Sri Lanka.
