For a 10-year-old boy and his best friend being lost in their comic books is the best way to spend their days! Unfortunately, for Will and his best friend Dillon, the boredom of school puts their adventures with their beloved Edgar the Super Beetle on the back burner. To make it worse their meddling classmate Gertrude has designs on how they should spend their time and gives Will an ultimatum. If Will does not comply, Gertrude will report in to their teacher Ms. Early and Will is already on her radar. Will of the Hill by Marshall Cobb is an entertaining story of school age antics with a twist. These kids attend school on the top of a mountain and the only way up is a retro-fitted school bus!

I like this story because it takes me back to my school days when kids are working through their awkwardness as they get closer to their teenage years. Cobb’s descriptive writing makes these kids come alive and their behavior easy to understand. He does a great job of appealing to the kid in all of us and builds a story that includes humor, exasperation, embarrassment, and a sense of adventure. Adding the twist of attending school on a mountaintop lends itself to even more funny circumstances these school kids encounter.

There wasn’t really anything that I did not like about the story. What I would like to see in future installments is delving deeper into why the school was built on top of that mountain. Because the story takes place over only a short span of days I can easily see how this story could evolve into a series of books.

I recommend this book to preteens and kids who are a bit younger. They are sure to enjoy the adventures of Will, Dillon, Gertrude and their other classmates. It may help them understand some of the feelings they are experiencing as they get older and face different challenges and circumstances. I think it also helps parents to read a book geared toward their children's ages to gain perspective on some feelings their child may experience as they start their path to the teenage years.

I rate Will of the Hill by Marshall Cobb 4 out of 4 stars. The book is well- edited and cleverly written. I only found a couple of errors and the entire book was engaging and charming. It is a delightful kid's story and after reading this book kids will be eagerly awaiting any book that might come next if made into a series!
