Will of the Hill by Marshall Cobb is a children’s book about Will and his classmates at the very interesting and mysterious school on the hill. This is a short chapter book for children between the ages of six and twelve. Older elementary school students may be able to understand some of the humor more so than younger elementary school students.

Will of the Hill is a short chapter book about a boy named Will. He, along with all the other kids in town, attend The Hill School, which is at the very top of a mountain. The air is thin, comic books are not allowed and Will finds some of his classmates, one in particular, very annoying. Will and his best friend Dillon love comic books and hanging out.

I liked that the author, Marshall Cobb, introduced a variety of characters early on in the story in a way that seems natural to the plot. As Will is getting on the bus to go to school, we meet the characters and learn a little about each one. On this bus ride we also are presented with the main dilemma of the story along with interesting facts about The Hill School and the town that Will lives in.

There isn’t anything that stands out to me as something I disliked about the book. It had a funny narrator and clear story. I suppose I would have liked more information about the mysterious hill that the town is located on. Perhaps the author will elaborate on that mystery more in a future installment, however, since understanding the mysteries of the hill isn’t integral to the plot, it doesn’t take from the story in any way and instead adds interesting development to Will’s story.

I am rating Will of the Hill 4 out of 4 stars. I am giving this book 4 stars because I did enjoy it and I believe that elementary aged children would enjoy it as well. There were not any errors and it was humorous and entertaining.
