I am fascinated by anything historical set in the French Revolution, the Russian Revolution, ancient Far East or the fractious Middle East. I have read too many books to name in these settings.

I loved Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. Lisa See writes great historical fiction about China. I recently read Sapphire Skies by Belinda Alexander which jumps back to the era of wartime concentration camps in Russia.

Do you have any recommendations for a historical fiction lover?

I really like anything that has to do with World War II, and there is no shortage of books about his topic. I enjoy looking at different perspectives, from the Americans, the Germans, Dutch, and Russians. Some really good book I have enjoyed are The Boy on the Wooden Box , Diary of Anne Frank, The Plot to Kill Hitler, and Between Shades of Gray.

I am fascinated by any story about Tudor England. I also enjoy things more ancient/fantasy like Egypt or ancient Greece.

I am drawn to stories about the settling of America. My favorite series that I recommend to everyone is Sara Donati’s Into the Wilderness. She weaves the most intriguing story with amazing characters. You live in these books, you don’t read them!

I really like anything that has to do with Tudors, especially Henry VIII and his six wife's. I love Alison Weir's -Tudor Queens series, C.J. Sansom's -Matthew Shardlake series.

I love historical fiction from many time periods. Two of my all time favorite books to cheer me up are Mara, Daughter of the Nile and The Witch of Blackbird Pond. I also enjoy (and own most of) Francine Rivers’ historical novels. T. L. Higley is another historical fiction author I have found quite entertaining. She has a romantic historical fiction series centered around the ancient wonders of the world. If I could learn history simply through novels, I would be ecstatic! :)

This is my favorite historical fiction series also. Sara Donati (AKA Rosina Lippi) weaves an engaging tale while incorporating good history lessons to boot!

I think several Alice Hoffman novels could be categorized as historical fiction, although they don't fit into one category alone. Anything she writes is a favorite of mine.

The World That We Knew
Blackbird House
The Red Garden
The Marriage of Opposites
The Museum of Extraordinary Things
The Dovekeepers
