Beebe and Bostelmann by Kent Politsch is a historical novel spanning the years 1927 through 1934. This book relates to the life of an unorthodox explorer, William Beebe, who has a burning desire to learn more about nature and its hidden treasures. He is a man that aims to enlighten the world on the existence of life in other parts of nature and the need to protect them and to save those other lives from going extinct.

Will has a dream and a plan to explore the ocean's depths and discover what possible life exists deep in the ocean. The issue of diving deep into the ocean is quickly solved by a brilliant engineer who uses a simple yet looked over technique to assemble a submersible. Will assembles a team of talented personalities, and soon, they begin exploring. Beebe and Bostelmann is the story of a man who isn't content doing the normal or conforming to widely accepted ideas. He begins the journey to exploring the ocean and cataloging the sea life he discovers. At first, everything looks good until it isn't. With opposition coming from everywhere and every point, his future becomes uncertain, and it seems like his dreams would crash after all.

One positive aspect I found in the book was the wealth of knowledge found in the book. I learned a lot of words concerning sea exploration in this book. I also loved that the book talked about doing things that are not usually obtainable in society, as I firmly believe that the need to escape normalcy brings change.

I found a lot of negative aspects in this book. First, this book was quite dull. It was long and tedious and barely had enough life in it. Again, this book had quite a lot of errors in it which I found annoying. Also, the situation concerning Beebe, his marriage, and his apparent infidelity was quite murky. It didn't make sense that he'd be openly doing what he was doing. I was also disappointed with his wife's reaction to his behavior.

I give this book a rating of 2 out of 4 stars. I did not rate it higher because I didn't find the book an interesting read in any way. And I didn't rate it lower because it was pretty informative, especially on historical events.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in adventures, discovery, and inventions. I would also recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about seas and the life that could be found in them.

The author did marvelously well in writing an educative like this. Some parts of nature are going extinct because of our negligence.

This really sounded like an interesting book until I read the negative aspects you had to say about it and I have to say it's always a pity when I see this in a book with great potential.
