I'm not an avid lover of fictional stories but this one was too engaging for me not to have read. The two brothers really passed through a lot. I'm glad they were able to find happiness in the end.

This book is about the patriarchal society where males were seen as Supreme to women and were forced to bend towards the needs and wants of their husband's. The plot of this book is during the industrial Era when there were wars and soldiers abusing women and young girls for their sexual needs. In this Era there was also child's labor exploitation and children not given proper education. Despite Jordanna being from a broken family and past she did not subject children and everyone around her to suffering, she protected them in some way. The plot I disliked is when Jordan's father sold her daughter to feed his family. Eventhough this story had most of the disheartening evens especially the death of Sarah, it kept me turning the pages as I wanted to see if at all there would be a light at the end of a tunnel.i would recommended this book to both the young and old readers so as to encourage the young readers not to give up and older readers to take good care of their children.

I like that this book blends historical facts with fiction; that's my kind of book. I'll give this book a try.
Congratulations, BOTD

If the book is as mysterious as your review then it's worth a read 😄. Even though some of this mystery was spoiled for you in the way you mention, I see enough in here to make me curious.

The review of this novel is detailed. I have always known that the effects of parental negligence are devastating. I take it that whatever mistakes and ugly incidents that happened to Jacob and Heschel were largely caused by the negligence of their father, Max.

Due to the sad plot, I don't know whether to read it or not; however, I am intrigued to know what hurtful experience Jacob lived through. I also find the time in which the story is set interesting. Thanks for the review

This should be an engaging novel filled with a lot of human emotions. Thank you for the review!
The disappearance of the word "I am" is indeed the highest happiness! :)

This book The Story Of by Mrs. Shirley B. Novack was a good reading. The beginning is thorough and there were no 'minors' left behind. I mean, the part where the soldiers come in, the brothel, the interest in furniture, etc. It is just present, even though, it was based in the late 1800s-1930s and on. I didn't quite remember any profanity, but the details started to get intense near the end. After the struggle and catastrophe from war and wounds, Jacob seemed to had found a safe place.
