Throughout various religions, including Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, the name Moses inspires reverence among its believers. In his book Moses, Lester Picker retells the story of Moses contrary to the Bible story and Christian history. With a mix of biblical accounts and historical facts, this is a story vastly different from the popular Old Testament account but still very similar to what has been widely known.

Beginning as the disfigured child of the king, Moses formally known as Amunhotep, and then Akhenadon assumes the throne following the death of his father. As a zealous believer in Adon and bearing a need to convert his people to the worship of one God, Akhenadon's rule slowly degenerates until he is forced into exile. With the help of his trusted brother, he begins a new phase of his journey, stripped of his royalty. Away in exile and taken away from everything he had ever known, does Akhenadon survive? What becomes of his fervency in serving Adon?

In this book, the author did a fantastic retelling of the story of Moses and I enjoyed getting to know what has been found to be more historically accurate. I really liked how famous names came up in the book. It was a delight coming across famous Egyptian legends and witnessing their roles in the story—names like Queen Nefertiti and King Tutankhamun. I also liked how realistic it was. For instance, we see Aharon's doubts about Adon and his brother's fervor despite him being the Chief Priest. Again, this book was really educational since it included Egyptian practices.

I did enjoy this book and found no negative aspects of the book.

This book was also professionally edited, and I found no errors in it. I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I did not rate it lower because I enjoyed reading it and found it enlightening. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading historical books or to anyone interested in Egyptian history.
