The cornerstone of our society rests on the institution of the family. It acts as a safety net, guarding us, shaping our identities, and fostering our growth. Family encompasses both our loved ones and our blood relations. No other bond can provide us with the same feelings of affection, protection, and belonging that a family does. An essential factor in a family's ability to withstand challenges is the level of trust among its members. Without trust, disharmony emerges. Cherie Harbridge Williams' captivating book Teacups and Lies enlightens us about family dynamics, the highs and lows of being part of a large family, and how the presence of God influences every facet of our existence. He is always ready to assist if we only reach out and ask.

The narrative commences in 1886 in Spencer Mills, Ohio, where the Reese family, consisting of Daniel and Susannah Reese along with their ten children, resides. Tragedy strikes when Daniel Reese, the family's main provider, passes away from a heart attack. This leaves Susannah and the children grappling with grief and uncertainty, especially concerning their financial situation. The inheritance left behind by their father causes John, the eldest son, to grow into an alluring figure who stirs up discord among his siblings. Can the family manage to regain stability? They engage attorney Christian Wolf to advocate for them, but there's a complication: Christian becomes romantically interested in Susannah. Will his personal feelings hinder his ability to assist the Reese family?

The plot takes a turn as Susannah and Danny embark on a journey to Lamar, seeking to access their late husband and father's financial assets. The legal complexities surrounding Daniel's bank account reveal the consequences of not having a will, which creates further tension and uncertainty for the family's future.

Susannah Reese stands out as my preferred character in the story due to her virtue and dedication to prayer. Despite facing numerous challenges and setbacks after her husband's passing, she placed her full trust in God and clung to His promises. Despite her genuine feelings for Attorney Christian, she maintained her sense of femininity and even invited him to attend church, recognizing his need to strengthen his connection with God. Susannah displayed remarkable forgiveness by pardoning her son John, even when his behavior was undeserving. John's persistent and ruthless pursuit of his father's inheritance did not deter her compassion. Through Susannah's actions, I learned the importance of unity and the significance of extending forgiveness to others.

There is nothing I dislike about this book. Kudos to the editor for the exceptional editing, and my gratitude to the author for sharing this remarkable piece of literature with the world. I rate this book five out of five stars because of the wealth of knowledge I gained from it. I recommend it to everyone, particularly those interested in exploring the dynamics of family relationships.

Firstly, I love that the author describes the family as a safe net that guards its members. Secondly, I am touched that they lost their father tragically at that. I hope they will be able to survive.
