The Circles of Gold by Kim Ekemar is a book that talks about the endless cycle of man in his pursuit of wealth and the extent to which a greedy man will want to go in carrying out his gluttonous desires. Dr. Gillette, who has changed identities several times, kept for himself the loot that was gotten from an operation during the German War. He decides to employ Charles Munroe in order to sell off the gold he has looted. Following the death of Dr. Gillette, Charles Munroe decides to become a major distributor of cocaine. Many years later, he suffers a conspiracy that threatens his life involving his old-time business associate, Dr. Gillette, who he had thought had died in an accident.

Michael ‘Dusty’ Dawes, a celebrated investigative journalist, begins an investigation titled The Beaked Whale Assignment, which involves the investigation of cocaine production, its distribution, and its effects on people. He deviates from his assignment and this deviation leads him to the den of the Cartagena cartel, the most dangerous cocaine dealers in the world. El Armando, the leader of the Cartagena cartel, will stop at nothing to destroy all those involved in the coup against his business interests. Little does he know that the chief strategist behind his downfall is one of his most trusted advisors.

There are several positive aspects of the book. First, the author employed a device where the concluding paragraph of a chapter is the beginning of the next chapter. This device is beautiful and its usage is rare in the literary world. Second, the author’s description makes the readers live and feel the feelings of the characters. For example, the description of Nava’s torture chamber made me nearly puke, just like Dusty did. The plot twist employed in the book is intriguing. Nobody would ever believe the twist that followed Dr. Gillette in the book and the orcastration of Don Armando’s challenges.

There are also a few negatives in the book. First, the author filled the book with unnecessary subplots that made the book lengthy; subjectively, the length was not an issue but the subplots that I felt could have been done away with. Some of the subplots had no linkage with the main plot, which made it tiring to read and even confusing. I am still wondering about the relevance of the story of Jofre or even that of Jaime Bonaventura to the main plot.

There are several errors in the book. This shows that the book would need another round of editing. Added to the negative aspects identified, I will be giving the book a 4 out of 5 stars rating. I recommend this book to all people interested in narrative history and even in books on drug cartels.

In "The Circles of Gold," Kim Ekemar has given a thorough attention to discussing humans' insatiable wants and endless quest to get more and more rich. The problem is that, unless we reconcile with ourselves and do the things that really matters, more wealth does not guarantee more happiness. I think I should give this book a try.

The review highlights both positive and negative aspects of the book "Share The Circles of Gold" by Kim Ekemar. The use of a unique device linking the concluding paragraph of one chapter to the next is praised, as well as the author's ability to immerse readers in the characters' emotions. The plot twist is described as intriguing. However, the review criticizes the inclusion of unnecessary subplots and errors in the book, suggesting the need for further editing. Overall, the review rates the book 4 out of 5 stars and recommends it to those interested in narrative history and books on drug cartels.
