This book offers a powerful look at what people endured during one of the darkest times in history. Anna’s determination and Hans’s struggle to stay hidden reflect the human cost of survival under fear and persecution. Definitely adding this to my reading list. Congrats on BOTD!

Untertauchen follows Hans Bracher after he was arrested by the SA and had to leave Berlin. Soon, he realized he could not stay in Germany, as the SA would not stop searching for him. This is a great suspense novel that shares some of the experiences Jewish families had.

Hans sounds like he's really been through a lot. Untertauchen by Arthur M. James is a historical fiction about the hardships Jews faced, and it seems like a worthwhile read.

A suspenseful and thought-provoking novel that follows the life of Hans Bracher, a Jewish family living in Germany. The book explores themes of survival, resilience, fear, the impact of isolation, and so much more. It is good to know that a suitable pace was maintained throughout. Your review brings out the intensity of the read. Thank you for an excellent review!

Untertauchen masterfully weaves suspense and emotional depth, exploring themes of survival, resilience, and moral ambiguity as Hans Bracher navigates the psychological and physical warfare of evading the SA in a hostile society.

Can anyone please explain what SA stands for?! I get that it is some kind of security force from the context, but googling it yields no results. There are many other incomprehensible things, starting from the title and ending with the time period it happens in. But in any case, while it can be educational, the book doesn't sound very inspiring to my literary tastes, and I prefer to pass story of a manhunt. Apologies and congratulations!

I'm intrigued by the complexity of human psychology and identity, as well as how things ultimately unfold for Hans and his family. Thank you for the review.

I love the story feel of the book. It makes it easier to read. I hate the went through so much. That breaks my heart him being raped. That, including all he went through, is the worst. I think this is more of a book my husband would read versus me. Congratulations on the book of the day.

Untertauchen seems like a very captivating book. Living in survival mode and on the run is exhausting. From the review, Hans is able to keep up with the need to protect himself and his family.

after going through the review I felt deeply moved and curious to know the whole story. It shows how tough life was for Hans and other Jews during that time. The fear, pain, and constant need to run for survival really touched me. The review made me think about the value of freedom and dignity. Overall, it left me with a heavy heart but great respect for the characters’ courage.

Strange title. A bit challenging pronouncing, but definitely a blockbuster. "Untertauchen" by Arthur M. James follow the life of the Brachers and their quest towards survival. The storyline is thought-provoking, emotive with strong character development and explores the complexity of human psychology and human identity. It also reveals how far one will go to protect his family, his dignity as a human, and their very existence from a society that threatens their safety. The book resonates with me and I'm definitely not gonna miss it.
