Ancient Rome is one of my favourite settings for historical fiction, and as such I have already added the book to my reading list. I love the different elements mentioned in the review: historical facts about a.o. the Vestal Virgins, the medical procedures (vivisection also makes my stomach turn but I see that it has a spot in the story); but also the fiction such as the ability to see the future.

I'm not into historical fiction. However, this blend of history and fantasy seems well-constructed and engaging, at least if you're not shocked too much by certain bits that are quite brutal in the story of Harra's attempt to save his beloved. Thank you for your great review!

The title had already caught my attention but this review was super helpful for me to decide it excites me enough to read it! From what I uderstood it falls into the category of historical fiction through "microlives" and I feel like it's harder to read these kind of stories about Druidic history in this time period.

There is so much mystery in this historical fantasy. The story seems captivating with all the adventures, romance between the druid and the virgin, and other real historical facts.

Druid mysticism seems pretty unique. I like books with fast-paced endings and diverse characters. The medical procedures feel sophisticated and professional despite being an ancient, mystic sort. I must finish this book!

A Druid's Odyssey is a great book and sound very brutal. I would love to find out if Ó hEaghra was able to save Iulla Fabia Alba. Interesting storyline.

I haven't read the book yet, but your description has really piqued my curiosity. The blend of history and fantasy, especially with such a unique character like Harra—a druid, slave, and physician—sounds fascinating. I’m also intrigued by how the story weaves in real historical figures like Claudius Galen and explores ancient cultures and forgotten names for familiar places. It sounds like the author did some serious research, which I always appreciate in historical fiction. I’ll definitely be adding this to my reading list!

The reviewer enjoyed it and wrote an interesting summary of the plot. Sometimes I worry that, although good to write about ancient times in story form; if well researched can be helpful in understanding our past. Yet if not done properly, just for dramas sake, is wrong.

"A Druid's Odyssey" by Francis Gene Collins follows the life and adventure of Harra a druid from Hiberia. He is someone of many titles like physician, soldier and slave. As a slave to Galen a physician he meets Alba a Vestal virgin that is not to be touched. He falls in love with the forbidden Alba and must save her from a horrible death. A love story adventure and great BOTD.

This exciting fantasy, "A Druid's Odyssey," by Francis Gene Collins, follows Hara's story. I love that the book is written in first person and has a gripping plot. The prologue really piques the attention.

Congrats on BOTD.
Francis Gene Collins' book "A Druid's Odyssey" chronicles the journeys and exploits of Harra, a Hibernian druid. Becoming a slave to Galen, a doctor, he encounters and develops feelings for Alba, who is banned, a Vestal virgin who had to be spared a terrible fate.
