Martyr by Rory Clements

Post by christina92 »

Martyr is a story about an intelligencer who is called John Shakespeare. The story takes place in Elizabethan's London. It is an historical, fiction and suspense book. John is in a group of intelligencer and he has to protect the Queen from all the plots that are happening around her. We find characters such as Francis Drake, Queen Elizabeth I herself and other such as Walsingham and Willliam Shakespeare.

The story begins with the murder of one of Elizabeth's cousins. John Shakespeare has to investigate the case. John searches evidences to find the murderer and in doing so he finds out that there are plots against Sir Francis Drake and the queen herself (Spanish Armada plot). Throughtout the book we find evidence of other plots and we suspect other characters.

The author did a very good research of the time period he chose to write about because he actually recreates Elizabethan's London pretty well. It is a dark period and we can feel it while we read the book. He uses real character such as Walsingham and Sir Francis Drake, which help us as a reader to make connection with history and we can even learn about this era. We even learn about there ways of punishing people, to make them suffer.

This book is very good, we stay in it and we just want to read further and further. If you did not read it, I suggest you to do it now because you are actually missing something very interesting!!

You can also find other books that follow Martyr, the author wrote a few books such as Revenge and traitor, so look for it, you will not regret it.
