Nice review. I think the father-son theme is also a popular one (as are the Crusades). The fact that you wanted to keep reading is a real compliment to the author. Did he explain why he began his series with the 4th Crusade? I see that the books that follow go from 5th to 9th Crusades.

I wonder how historically accurate this book is? I love historical fiction that illuminates rather than confuses history. Will have to give it a read. Thanks for the great review.

The crusades aren't necessarily my favorite historical period, however, I do love when a character becomes more than he desires to be due to the hardships he faces. Riggerio fits this criteria, a wannabe be warrior becomes a fighting priest. I am impressed with your review, I believe you did well.
