Absolute power corrupts and that's what happens usually in the absence of democracy. This book portrays how rulers see those that oppose them as enemies and throw them in chains for fear of their own security.

No matter how long tyranny reigns, freedom would always prevail. I love the fact that the sword of tyranny which is Jamsheed was sent to hurt himself in forn of his brother.

I would really love to read this book to see how Jamsheed was able to deal with the situation.

This book is about Iran and it’s journey towards democracy. The role of Jamsheed is well carved. Good review. Congratulations BOTD!

The author of the novel strongly condemns torture in prisons. I could not agree more on that, this brings the idea on capital punishment that is practiced in my own country and other countries. I wish it could be abolished for good and many forms of torture in prisons because they are inhuman practices. I will love to read this book fully. Al- Armaghani is my favourite character already because it seems his conscience is against the events that happen in Evin Prison but the real test is when his brother becomes a victim.

Wow! The storyline is akin to that of the TV series, Allegiance. I already love the book. Congrats on being the BOTD.

I love suspense and drama, but stories that have to do with human rights abuses strike too close to home. Enlightening summary.

An action-packed, historical fiction book filled with suspense that borders on imprisonment, torture, justice, and more; dedicated to all the innocent people wrongfully incarcerated in Iran and other places seems informative. Lovers of this genre will surely enjoy reading it. Thanks for your review!

If the beginning scenes of torture are any indication of what happens throughout the book, I'll have to pass. I don't really mind a bit of gore, but explicitly describing the pulling of fingernails and gang rape crosses a line for me. Thanks for the detailed and insightful review!

The twists, turns and mind-blowing suspense makes this a fascinating one. However, fans of historical fiction will appreciate this better.

I don't think that this is a book that I would read. Judging from the review I am afraid that I would find it difficult to read.

Drama, action, and suspense are traits that I look for when selecting a book to read. This sounds like a thought provoking historical fiction book. Despite the disturbing scenes featured in the story, I might consider the book. Congratulations on being the BOTD.

It is interesting to have literary plots set in different countries. It's the first time I come across a book set in Iran. And it has all the ingredients needed for an intriguing book, like family bonds vs loyalty to a regime. I'm glad that it achieved 4 out of 4 stars.
Thank you for the insightful review.
