Wars are never a good thing. The world we live in today is still reeling from the adverse effects of many battles past. I like that this author, instead of writing another "exposé" on historical wars has chosen to show us the impact of war through fiction. Sometimes, fiction is the best way to really get a message through to people's hearts. This sounds like a good book to read over and again. Congrats on BOTD.

Thanks for the honest review. This sounds like an interesting story about a family whose members have served in wars. Using a mix of narrative and journal entries can be interesting as well.

It takes a toll on your mental state there is no such from truly healing from that. This is a tough story to read about and what this author and family had to go through.

I'm not a big fan of historical fiction or war stories, so I will be passing on this one. Thanks for an honest review.

The story explores the impacts of war on families. I do hope that family members not only survive the war but also heal from the consequences. Thanks for the insightful review.

In sampling this book, it seems a bit too detailed for me, but I appreciate the author’s approach. Thanks for a great review.

A historical fiction novel that talks about the consequences of war in people's lives. It sounds interesting, but I'm not really into detailed narratives that aren't fast, so I'm passing it. But congrats on BOTD for the author! Thanks for the review!

The storyline seems quite interesting, as the protagonist narrates about his past life in the middle of the novel and this aspect of the novel is very engaging.

The Wars Among The Paines is a very interesting historical fiction. The reader is exposed to the many atrocities and negative fall-outs of war. The main character Treat Paine explains to the reader how quickly eh fell in love with his wife and how he kept a number of family secrets from her. Indeed, it is only when his mother dies and he has to attend the funeral that he comes clean with his wife.

This novel reveals the fact that Treat's family have all been a part of the military. They have either supported the wars or strongly opposed them (as was the case with his sister Joan).

I especially like the fact that this book is very well-edited and mixes Treat's first hand accounts with documents and other records of this time period.

Anyone who likes historical narratives will enjoy this book. It can however become a bit too detailed at times.

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting historical fiction novel about a man who has hidden the truth about his family's history from his wife, but when he has to attend his mother's funeral he decides it is time to come clean about the his family's dark legacy. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

This book revolving around the "appalling ramifications of war" is definitely a nice read. I like it that the storytelling was compelling and moving. However, historical fictions about wars are not my favorite. Otherwise, congrats on the BOTD!

The Wars Among The Paines by John M. Millar is a novel on past memories, and it's also a historical fiction. I don't like historical fiction that much, so I'll skip this one. Congratulations on #BOTD.

Thanks for the great review. After reading a sample of the book and your review I've decided to add it to my want to read sometime in the future list. I also really liked reading about how he met his wife. Also, his style of writing was easy to read.
