This sounds like a heartfelt and amazing book! I can't wait to read this book and learn more about the duo's journey and how the big move will affect both of them. Learning to become an adult at 11 and also experiencing the great loss that Nell did at such a young age is heartbreaking

Those who enjoy adventure books should pick up this book. It contains a story of Nell and her father who move to Oregon to find a better life after losing two close family members (Nell's mom and baby brother). I wonder if their move proved fruitful. Congrats on the BOTD!

I can’t imagine the responsibility that has fallen on Nell’s shoulders. She was only 11!

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting historical fiction about a young woman is forced to grow-up and take care of her family in the Old West as they attempt to travel to Oregon and make a living. Will they make it? It might be worth a second look. Well done.

It's sad how eleven-year-old Nelly had to start taking up duties and responsibilities beyond her age following her mother and brother's deaths. I hope things turn out well for her and her dad at Oregon. Novels with themes of this nature interest me, because they offer me the opportunity to develop mental toughness, and I might give this a read.

This sounds like a charming coming-of-age book that deals with heavy themes. Nell has to endure far too much for her young age; I hope she figures it out! Thanks for the lovely review.

I'm looking forward to dive into Nell's suspenseful journey. Her character sounds lovable. I'm not sure about the use of dialect in this book. I think it would distract me due to my english level. Thank you for a nice and well-written review.

Maturity can come at my age but to an 11-year-old girl alone with her father is the toughest of them all. I would love to read this book to know what became of Nell. Congrats on BOTD.

I can relate to Nell quite a bit, having had to grow up early as well. Tysm for the review, I'm gonna have to add this to my reading list!

Great review! I read some of the sample online and snorted with amusement at the opening scene. Lots of action! Looks like a fun book!

Great review. :tiphat: The manner that you share how the setting, plot, storyline, and character roles, through to the emotional connection having a real feel, is how I feel about your review. It has a very descriptive flow with passion and insight that doesn't only make me interested but intrigued to read the book for the curiosity on how Oregon treats Nell and Nathan, the historical information on transportation and business and most of all the English version you speak about

Nell's West by Erin Eldridge sounds pretty good. Nell losing her mother and sibling at 11 years was such a big blow. Was Nathan's idea of moving to Oregon with his daughter Nell a fruitful one? I will read to find out. Congratulations on the BOTD.

Patty Allread wrote: 02 Sep 2022, 11:24 Thanks for your review. There is more to this book than I initially thought, having seen the cover. I'm not too fond of the cover art because of the head growing out of the horizon.
I have to agree; I thought the exact same thing! I changed my mind after I started reading. I think the author really needs to look at changing the cover art. It just doesn't look or feel right for a story set in the 1800s. I really enjoyed this review.

Nell seems like a compelling young lady to know. And the historical setting seems interesting with the storyline. And the different language used in the book also fascinates me though it seems hard to understand. I would love to read this intriguing piece of work. Congrats on BOTD!!
