I have that first volume on my to-read list, but I didn't know it was part of a series. From your description of this one – what with the maps and illustrations to support the history – I must surely read both now.

The book "These Sacred Lands" by James Harold Kelly is historical fiction full of illustrations and maps. In addition to the historical background, the book also brings authentic interpersonal relationships, such as the friendship between Joshua and a young Lakota boy.

While historical fiction are not one that really interests me but I see the need for the recount of history. Because it keeps it alive as it is passed down from generation to generation. Little by little, I begin to appreciate history. I did enjoy the review of this book and I'm looking forward to reading the book. Congratulations on BOTD.

I am intrigued by the young McKenzie and his friendship with the Lakota kid. There is something about these ill-fated relationships that always fascinate me. Be it romantic or brotherly, like in this work. I am already hoping (against hope, I fear) that their friendship weathers the imminent storm. Congrats on the BOTD.

This relatable historical novel about the Lakota people seems like it is well-written and thoroughly researched. It also sounds like it is an accurate portrayal during that time period. Great review!

This sounds like a wonderful read! Such novels can teach us so much about ourselves. It would be interesting to draw parallels with what's happening in the world today. We still fight wars with all the justification we can make up. History is supposed to teach us lessons and historical fiction is a way of making this come alive.

"These Sacred Lands" by James Harold Kelly. An interesting historical fiction book talks about how history came about. Joshua in his own part arrived in Fort Laramie at stagecoach with his parents and siblings. His excitement was high and his friendship with the young Lakota boy of his age increased, even learning the Lakota language. This book helps readers know more about places as illustrated by the map. Congrats on your #BOTD.

I'll pass on history for the time being because I don't particularly admire it. Thanks for the great review.

This is an exciting book that dwells on historical facts. It is, however, a work of fiction. Wars at this time is fought to acquire territories and wealth. I hope people can connect with Indian culture as they read this book. Thanks for the review.

This was a nice review. I don't read a lot of historical fiction, and I don't feel particularly drawn to this one. Still, I'm glad you enjoyed it so much; I imagine others will too. Thanks for your thoughts.

These Sacred Lands is a novel set in the American West. It is the second volume in the I am a Soldier, First and Always series. It is filled with maps and illustrations. This book shows readers how history came about and outlines the battles and events of the Great Sioux War fought in the late 1800s. Thanks for your review.

Joshua and Shadow Hawk obviously would've had constraints when it came to their friendship, as Joshua was a white settler and Shadow Hawk a Lakota boy. But Joshua had the foresight to learn the Lakota's language, which would've helped a great deal in negotiations and saved lives on both sides of the battle. The reviewer mentioned many other details but not enough to spoil the book. Thanks for a great review!
