The summary you wrote in this review made me wonder and terrified what could have happened to Kamel and his grandfather. I like the idea of being able to picture scenes by reading through the author's simple but wise words. Thanks for recommending this historical fiction.

WW1 has always been a particular fascination of mine. It is unusual, however, to find a book written about a child who was NOT part of the Holocaust itself but was nevertheless significantly affected by the war and its atrocities. Even with the grammatical errors, it sounds like it would be an intriguing read. Great review!

Every history has its mystery. I know there are many to discover when it comes to historial book thats why its really interesting to read.

When I first looked at the cover of the book I wasn't interested reading the book. After reading your review I will give the book a try. The story is heartbreaking, just from reading your review, but it also sounds intriguing. I can't imagine living through losing my entire family and living through war. I would like to see how Kamel handles his challenges and becomes a man. Thank you for introducing me to a genre that I never considered reading before.

I'm not much for reading historical and about wars. But as I read your review it does sound interesting about a boy growing up to manhood and just wanting to go back home.

I didn't have a good first impression of this book because of the cover, but after reading your review, my interest rose up. How a child's life can change in an instance and how this change make him grow from boyhood to adulthood sounds very relatable.

Thanks for the review - your suggestion for tissues will not go unheeded. This seems like a heavy book in the best of ways. I'm scared for the devastating moments of loss but excited for Kamel's growth. I will be following Kamel on this whirlwind of events.
