I do love historical fiction, especially when the author has done so much homework. I’ll definitely add this to my list. I really need to start with the original book before I go on to this one.

I definitely am convinced that I need to read this series of books. I love that the author included many historical elements to the story to make it as realistic as possible. I have learned about the history of China after the fall of the last emperor. The opium trade started with the British smuggling it into China which allowed them to take control of the country. It wasn't until the rise of the Communist Party that China and the takeover of the government in 1949 that it became the country that it is today.

It sounds like the perfect opportunity to not only read an intriguing book but, also learn about other cultures. I do not know much history of China, nor do I know much about the opium trade but I am now hooked. A must-read!

Thank you for the review. I’m a bit hesitant with this book because it is the fourth in the series. Can it be read as stand alone? If so then I would like to check it out!

This book sounds absolutely fascinating and I love the fact that the author never slows the tempo of the story down. I also appreciate that this book can be read as a stand-alone as I have yet to read the previous books, but this is another one that I am looking forward to reading! Thanks for the engaging review!

A historical novel abounding in lots of action, adventure, and suspense sounds thrilling. It's characterization seems nice as well. Thanks for the review.

I'm glad to hear that this novel could act as a stand-alone to the other novels in the series. I personally enjoy reading series, but I usually feel burdened having to first read through several novels to get to the one I'm interested in reading. This sounds like yet another good historical fiction by Kater. Thanks for the great review!

When historical fiction meets historical accuracy, it typically leads to a well rounded story, and it sounds like this one hit the mark.

I like learning about other cultures and how in-depth some authors go to include the scenery. I don't travel often, so vivid descriptions are needed for me to dive into a world where I haven't been. This sounds like a great read. Congrats on BOTD!

I like that this can be read as a standalone novel, as I haven't read the other books in the Warramunga series. It's also nice when you can learn some interesting facts while reading this novel. Thanks for the recommendation!

I enjoy seeing themes such as friendship, patriotism, and the power of self-sacrifice run in parallel with the thirst for power, corruption all in one book. This sounds like fun. Thanks for the review.
