This book is filled with mysteries. The unsolved disappearance of the tavern owners is something I'm interested to find more about. I love historical fictions though I haven't read any about the prohibition period. I'll definitely love to read this. Thanks for the great review

I wonder what makes the people disappear from The Corner. I think Patcja and Helina are the protagonists trying to solve the mystery. I usually won't prefer historical fiction books. This sounds interesting. Thanks for the review. Congrats on the BOTD!

This is a historical fiction, especially America during Prohibition around 1920. This is about the two sisters of Polish ancestry, Halina and Patcja, who live in Hegewisch, a Polish-American community on the south side of Chicago. A lot of mystery surrounds the ownership of a tavern and Patcja , and there is something unknown buried in a patch of cement in the basement. Interesting book and a good book review. Congratulations on the BOTD!

I have read many historical novels, but not one from a Polish point of view. It seems this novel has that covered. A tale of two sisters, one of them who runs a tavern that is surrounded in mystery and the other one who seems to be a healer of sorts, using herbs and spells. I am especially intrigued by the mysterious disappearances of the taverns previous owners and that this novel takes place during the prohibition era, with the characters dealing with post-war issues as well as bootleggers and corruption. It may seem a little bit of a long read, but most historical novels tend to lean in that direction anyway. I look forward to reading the novel based on this review.

Thank you for the great review. There does seem to be a lot of mysteries going on, especially about the owners of the tavern. At the moment, I'm not interested in a slow story, but perhaps later on I will be able to enjoy it.

It will be interesting reading this book on the two Polish sisters as they grew in America during the early 1920s. Great review.

Intriguing storyline. Prohibition times were rough on a lot of people. I am curious why people keep disappearing though.

I love reading books that unravel mysteries. I would like to know what caused those people to disappear. I like the cultural aspect of the book, I would like to read about the polish, and I like that the characters are well developed. Thanks for a compelling review.
