This is a good way to learn about New York and Brooklyn. Reading about past historical happenings if fun but I'd skip this book. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to finish it. However, people who enjoy history and architecture will love it.

I'm not a massive fan of architecture books, so this book does not appeal to me. I do find it remarkable that the author did in-depth research to showcase the through-the-years evolution of Clinton Hill. The author is owed congratulations for writing this book and having the BOTD.

This non-fiction book about the history of the buildings and their architects in Clinton Hill sounds like a good book to have as a reference. Great review!

I don’t regularly read architectural books, but I do like old architecture, so this book sounds interesting. I’m glad that the book is well-illustrated also; it wouldn’t really make sense to read about buildings without pictures to accompany the descriptions. Thank you for the helpful review.

Rickie T. James has creatively contributed to the field of architecture with this interesting book on the architecture of the historic Clinton Hill. The word "quoin" and it's meaning is interesting. Being from the engineering field I am interested in this topic and want to read this sometime. You have written the review so well. Congratulations on the BOTD!

From the title of the book, I can deduce it will be under the historical fiction genre. But even though I like historical novels, I don't think the book would appeal to me. Congratulations on the BOTD.

“The Architecture of Historic Clinton Hill: Brooklyn, New York” by Mr. Rickie James is a non-fiction book that studies the construction of Clinton Hill in Brooklyn, New York over the 100-year period from 1830 – 1930. Many of the mansions built during this time period are still standing today and have been given landmark status. The book includes many of the famous architects that designed the mansions. I have a deceased brother-in-law that was a famous architect in Italy and the U.S. from the late 1940s through the 1980s and he is featured in a similar book. What amazed me about this book is the opulence of these mansions during the Civil War. The rich undoubtedly did not send their sons into battle during the Civil War although many of the Union high ranking officers were probably related to these rich tycoons. An excellent 46-page book that I am adding to my To-Read shelf.

I might be wrong, but I never saw any sense in reading about places far away without the intention of visiting them at least some time soon. Unfortunately, I definitely don't plan to travel to Clinton Hill: Brooklyn, New York in the foreseeable future. Don't get me wrong, the location looks beautiful in movies and all, but still not a tourist attraction for someone with no interest in architecture in my opinion. Still congrats on BOTD!

I feel that this book would be enlightening. When vacationing, you can always tell when you have reached the older homes in a city. It's not because they are run down, but because they bear unique architectural marks that make them stand out. It makes the viewer wonder how homes like these came to be and how they have managed to endure for so long. From your review, it seems as though many of these curiosities could be answered regarding the homes in Brooklyn, New York. Thank you for the review.
