I enjoyed reading the sample pages; it was narrated very well from Annalise's viewpoint and made me want to read more. It was fascinating to learn about Germans who disagreed with the Nazi dictatorship. It is also sad to think about what trials and tribulations they would go through knowing what transpired in those Nazi years. Congratulations on the BOTD!

The reviewer's mention of unexpected plot twists and the emotional rollercoaster they experienced adds to the book's appeal. The author's ability to tackle difficult topics like race, war, and rape showcases the depth of the storytelling. Despite the minor concern about chapter length, the reviewer's overall satisfaction and high rating make me eager to delve into this captivating family drama.

The book explores a significant period in history. Life becomes exceptionally hard when we get forced out of the familiar into the unfamiliar, especially when there are no guarantees. Annalise and her family experienced this and more. Congrats on BOTD.

I appreciate how the reviewer emphasizes the simplicity of the language, making the book accessible and engaging. The characters' distinct personalities and their struggles in a war-torn society create a deep emotional connection. It's refreshing to see a fictional story rooted in reality, and I'm excited to dive into this thought-provoking narrative.

The fictional life of Annalise Klaus, a German lady born years before the occupation of the Nazi Party, sounds interesting. I am also curious about the lives of the members of her family through the World War and after. Congratulations on BOTD.

War stories are always poignant. I am eternally thankful that I have not experienced war personally, and I hope it stays that way. I am sure the Klaus family's story will be heart-rending. I don’t think I'm ready for it.

It is quite brave of the author to write about such a terrible time in history. I am interesting in knowing how the Klaus children turned out, if they believed in the Nazi regime.

The book which was written in so charming historical setting... Keeps you glued till the end. As the writer's words absorbs you into the novel...the lead character doesn't only fight the battles within ( that is the crisis of growing up), but also without as the Nazi environment they lived in wasn't exactly a nice play to grow up.
