“The Sun and the Moon of Alexandria” by Ray Filby is a story about the life of Apollos, a teacher of the Christian faith. Located in Alexandria Apollos decides to go on a solitary trip to Giza to see the incredible pyramids. Along the way he meets members of the Jerusalem synagogue and collaborated with Barnabas and John Mark presenting teachings about Jesus’ life to the Hebron synagogue. Apollos and John Mark cross paths with Paul and Silas in Ephesus and he uses the words of Zechariah to explain the connection between God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. This is a fascinating story that is based on in-depth research, well-written and provides excellent insights about the intersections of faith and civilization. I look forward to reading this amazing historical book.

I don't really get the book's indepth submissions from this review. However, it seems like the author did a good job with portraying the character of Apollos. I think students of history will learn some things from here.

Historical fiction and prime focus on Egypt makes this book right up my alley, but unfortunately, the involvement of Christianity kills any chance of me ever reading it. No matter how good and promising the storyline sounds, I simply can't overlook the amount of blood spilled in the name of religion to perceive it in the spirit that holy books proclaim.
