It was very interesting. Parents might have fun with this book just for the memories it evokes!Bluebird03 wrote: ↑24 Apr 2019, 14:57 How neat that the author has recreated the 1950's for the readers- via the tv and radio shows, cars, movies and songs of that decade. Great review!![]()

This book was entertaining and nostalgic at the same time. I thought this series was a unique way for the author to write her memoir. Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated!Cecilia_L wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 12:16 Since I read two of the four books in the series, I really enjoyed your review. The polio is mentioned in the other books, as one of the kids' friends suffered from it. It seems we enjoyed some of the same features of the nostalgic content, and you make an excellent point about parents explaining the pop-culture references. Great review!

The author does speak about Jonas Salk and the discovery of the vaccine. I really liked how she presented the story through the eyes of a school-aged child. Hope you will enjoy the book too. Thanks for commenting.

I enjoyed this point of view, especially since the children were the most affected by polio. Thanks for commenting.

That was something that attracted me too. I also liked that the book was written from a child's perspective portraying their reaction to what they were seeing on tv and hearing from the adults. Hope you get a chance to read and enjoy the book. Thanks for commenting!ElizaBeth Adams wrote: ↑25 Apr 2019, 22:22 I like that the author's main plot line was about polio. There are many historical fiction books out there for kids that seem to cover the same moments in history over and over. I like that this is a topic that hasn't been covered much, that I know of. Thanks for a well-done review.

This is a unique series and I like the point of view of the book. Some of the tv programs and song titles might be unfamiliar for this age group. Hope you get a chance to read the book! Thanks for stopping by.
