I liked that aspect of the book as well! Thank you for dropping by.markodim721 wrote: ↑21 May 2021, 11:35 I like the fact that the main characters in the book are members of some sort of female dynasty.

It's kind of like Kalayla, but it tackles more serious issues, I guess. There are actually four generations of women if you count Lorraine's daughter. Thank you for the comment!MarianaFigueira wrote: ↑21 May 2021, 14:49 The part of the three generations of women reminds me of the novel Kalayla. It sounds incredible, it speaks volumes of the book that it made you cry a little bit. Thanks for the wonderful review.

It is. I think you'll like it, as well. Thank you for stopping by!

The characters seem even more humane through that.

I agree, it was sad to read about what they went through, but it was more heart-breaking to find out the truth behind Carmen's abandonment. Thank you for leaving a comment, it's always nice to read from you!Josephe-Anne wrote: ↑22 May 2021, 17:27 I often hear stories about people being neglected by alcoholic parents. But I seldom find stories where reconciliation happens. The past cannot be changed, but it's great to find a story where the delinquent parent is trying to improve.
Thank you for another well-written review.

I agree with you! This book reminded me that a story always has two sides. Thank you for dropping by.Wildflowertheorist wrote: ↑23 May 2021, 02:15 This book reminds you that people are not always what they seem.- I like when stories change the entire narrative and our perspective when they dive into the characters past.
The characters seem even more humane through that.
I hope you read this book, and although I think there's no justification for abandoning your children, I think you'll understand why Carmen did it. I'm eager to know your thoughts about it. Thank you for stopping by!Chigo Nwagboso wrote: ↑23 May 2021, 02:30 Thanks for a well-detailed review. I was almost having same bad perception about Carmen for abandoning her own children. I hope her reasons are well justified. I need to find out.

I agree with you. However, I found that I couldn't entirely blame Carmen for her decision. Thank you for the comment!Saint Bruno wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 04:00 I still struggle to understand why a mother would abandon her kids. I am not judging, though. Thanks for the insightful review and recommendation.

You write a heartfelt review. I get very sad vibes from it.
I just read Kalayla, and I can relate to the comment above that says this book reminds us of Jeannie Nicholas' novel.

Thank you for your kind words and comment, I'm sure this book won't disappoint. The generational part of the book reminded me of Kalayla as well, but this one is more heavy, I guess.Dzejn_Crvena wrote: ↑28 May 2021, 09:21 Based on your recommendation, I think this is the kind of book I need to give my online friends.

Thank you for the compliment and comment!Yvonne Monique wrote: ↑30 May 2021, 02:14 I don't really like books that span over generations of family members, but your review portraits the story really well. Good job!

I'm so sorry to hear that, no one should have had to go through what you did. Even if this book doesn't help you, I'm sure you're well on your way in your healing process, no matter how long it might take.Chizioboli wrote: ↑30 May 2021, 03:36 Your review is fantastic. I couldn't help but feel sad reading this. I have had a similar case but milder one where my dad abadoned me for 12 years. I look forward to reading this book in the future, maybe it could help me heal properly.
