Your review of this book is wonderful, I feel as though most of the book has been digested except the urge I have to clear about Elizabeth 's fiancé.

It is really sad to see where people avoid being themselves inorder to feel accepted by the society. This great book gives an insight into the struggles of Elizabeth who is not too confident of her skin colour.

I'm a big fan of historical fiction and I would love to see how things turn out for Elizabeth and her fiancè. There also strong female characters present and I would love to see how things turn out. Thank you for the great review.

Elizabeth's husband being racist adds so much content to this book. I would like to read this book in the future. Nice review.

The narrative does get off to a slow start as it prepares the background of the story and introduces the major characters. After reading further, this seems to be a fascinating genealogical mystery. Thanks for the good review on this book.

Historical fiction is not my thing and I have to admit that I know next to nothing about Louisiana in the 19th century but the story seems compelling showing human merits and flaws. Thank you for your great review!

How incredibly sad that someone is forced to "pass" as someone they are not, probably due to the historic circumstances.
But you make a great point: elderly characters are rare and they're often relegated to a secondary or incidental role. I'm glad this is not the case.
I usually don't have much patience for books with a slow start, but this one seems to be worth it.
Thank you!

I hate that Elizabeth feels like she has to hide who she is. I think that I would really dislike her fiancé. He sounds horrible.

I find attractive a story based on a true event that incorporates imagined elements that fit together properly. Also, the characters seem to be well developed, especially the main ones, Elizabeth and Margaret. Sounds like an entertaining option.

I am a fan of historical fiction. This sounds interesting. I wonder what happened to her fiance who is a bigot, not knowing that she is African American. Thanks for your review.

Oh dear, what a calamity!! Two strong women, one haunted by fear of discovery and one so strong and determined despite being aged. It is a great book that demonstrates struggles of identity from time immemorial. Depicted as a true story, your review touches on very sensitive and relatable topics. I feel the urge to grab this book and understand what happens next. You see, subtle racism may still exist yes, however, history makes it hard to tell the difference. Thank you.
