I love historical fiction and stories that can keep me in suspense and surprise me. So this definitely sounds like my type of book. However, it is the transportation development which interests me the most.

Great review. I’m glad the characters were exciting and it was a good storyline to follow. I’m sure it was interesting being based in a different time period with different technology and ideals.

I get your point about language. It's hard to find a balance between being congruent with the time period and making reading enjoyable. It is, indeed, a less-explored part of historical fiction, so that's interesting.

There seems to be much more than you generally see in western movies about that period in this novel. Nell's story might offer a much more complete and reliable portrait of the Wild West giving at the same time an engaging plot. Thank you for your great review!

It would be fascinating to read how quickly Nell matures after she lost her mother and sibling. I think those who identify with Nell might be intrigued to see if they have the same reactions and thinking as Nell when they were forced to be an adult.

I'm curious if Nell and Nathan had any good fortune in Oregon. I like the predominant themes of the plot, such as love, death, courage, perseverance, and survival. It seems like a good option.

I know there are some people out there who can relate to the reality of Nell. It's quite a hard reality to grasp. But as we find in the themes highlighted in this book, challenges can be overcome.

It is quite unfortunate that the death of Nell's mother forced her to become an adult at the tender age of 11. I can't imagine the ordeals must have passed through. I'm glad she grew into a strong woman, despite all circumstance.

I love reading historical fiction stories and I also like that the protagonist is a strong female character. I find the cover off because the girl in the cover didn’t look like she was from the 1800s. I hope I don’t find the old English language and spelling that difficult to read. Thank you for your review!

The mixture of proper and broken English gets you excited, and making Nell a legend gets you up against an imaginative young woman.

I'm not a huge fan of stories set in the 1800s, they have to be pretty great for me to enjoy them. I just don't believe Nell's story is for me. Great review, though!
