Good job on the review :) Wow this book seems like an emotional ride. The plot is certainly interesting and from just reading the free sample I can already tell I'll like the main character Julia.

I love stuff about ancient Rome. This sounds pretty interesting, although I'm not a big fan of stories about abuse.

Also, the readers, who appreciate the creative twist to historical facts, will enjoy Simon's take on Julia's story.
Sounds right up my alley! I'll have to check this out sometime. Wonderful review, you really seemed to like the book and that, more than anything else, makes me want to read it!

Great review. I am really not a fan of historical fiction, but I have to admit that Julia's story is intriguing as your review is quite compelling. I'm putting this in my maybe pile. Thanks for sharing.

I was excited when I saw the name of Julius Caesar as "an unknown young aristocratic boy." The description of characters is to the point and not written with too much detail.
Having so far read only the sample, I was struck by the reviewer's important point (above) that I had not consciously realized. We can see the same point made in the sample with the passing reference:
the story that ended with a wooden horse full of Greek soldiers who opened the gates of the city from within;
(Kindle locations 627-628). Rumney gives no further description; the author assumes the reader has prior knowledge.

A female character in ancient Rome is an interesting premise, but I think I'll pass on this book due to the dark topics like rape. Nice review and congrats on BOTD!

I see that this book is part of a series in which the main character returns again and again, often being involved in major events. The premise is fascinating and I look forward to seeing what else happens in the series. Great idea for a series.

Thank you for your review! i read the review on Amazon when I was getting my book and had an idea of what the book was about. Historical fiction is not my primary favorite, but it is of interest to me. i was aware that there was abuse, and was not surprised about the rape (although I felt it was a spoiler); considering that women were considered as property in that time frame. Any time you have one group being treated as subhuman there are all kinds and types of savage behavior and cruelty. Slavery and debauchery seem to be running mates throughout time. Julia's focus on revenge is not surprising, and it probably kept her from self-destructing after the horrors she'd been through. Sounds like a fascinating book, that I'll read.
Thank you for your review and congrats to the author on BOTD!

Nice review! It's hard to find a book that targets abuse of women, yet remains captivating until the end. I usually don't enjoy this type of book but may have to try this one.
