Even though the book is a work of fiction, I’m captivated by how the author has developed Leslie’s character to feel genuinely lifelike. The blend of humor, reflection, and profound emotional insight you describe is incredibly appealing, especially in how the book tackles serious themes like childhood abuse and resilience. I haven’t read it yet, but it's clear from your review that this story delivers both heart and adventure. I can’t wait to dive in!

Told with honesty and humor, today’s BOTD is a well-written memoir in which the author tells his life story from age 3-63. Readers will not only appreciate the adventures he brings to life, but also the lessons and emotions he shares along the way. I loved your review…great work!! I’ve added this to my WTR list. Thank you! :-)

That's what Ed said" by U A Dumas, a book that features a school, a principal and math teacher. It will be interesting to read about who was the victim of the abuse in this story and how this occurrence was overcome.

Congrats on BOTD!
The book "That’s What Ed Said" by U.A. Dumas is a hilarious, truthful, and sincere account of the existence of retiring principal Leslie Edward Dumas. The book vividly depicts his trauma experienced as a youngster, wild escapades, and tenacious nature.

As an English teacher, I am putting this book on My Want to Read shelf! I love books that come full circle, and from Olga's review, I believe this will be one of those stories. And I'm very curious reading about his spelunking adventure. I always say if you haven't been able to do something in life yourself, the next best thing is to experience it through someone elses' eyes, in this case, Ed's!

Thanks for such a thoughtful and detailed review, Olga! I was especially intrigued by your description of Leslie feeling like someone you’re sitting across from in a pub — that kind of narrative voice is rare and powerful. The fact that the book handles both light-hearted adventures like sledding and deep emotional experiences like childhood abuse makes me want to read it even more. I also appreciate your note about the emotional complexity in Leslie’s relationships, especially with his family. It sounds like a story that balances humor, hardship, and reflection beautifully.

The book sounds interesting and offers a captivating account of Leslie’s life. Despite enduring abuse and childhood trauma, he didn’t let it affect him negatively. Through all his adventures and everything life threw at him, he still managed to find success. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

Thank you for the review. I read the sample. Children learn from what happens to them. Being blessed with a loving Grandma to care for them, they realize their parents are still learning. I want to read this book.

This captivating life story is well-written and realistic. Leslie seems like a relatable character with an interesting life journey. Your review is helpful for what to expect from the book. I'm more likely not interested because of the sensitive content.

The adventures the author had sound very interesting, especially spelunking. This statement ("More than once, Leslie’s adventures made me chuckle and think that boys never grow up!") reminds of the statement that there is a boy in every man and a man in every boy. I read the book sample, and I can, indeed, say that the author's writing is exceptional. Thank you, @Olga Markova, for the review.

"That's What Ed Said by U. A. Dumas follows the life journey of Leslie(ED) Dumas a school Principal through the ups and downs of his life. This is a interesting and honest look into all relationships, and adventures from childhood to adulthood. Through it all to stay positive and take life lessons from his story is commendable. Great BOTD
