I was wondering where you were! Tough read?
Tough? You have no idea! You'll need therapy after you are done. Much like Game of Thrones fandom :D
Really, that nasty? I guess I'll have to skip this one.

Yeah, but in the midst of such tragedy there's some underlying hope for better times ahead. Don't forget that wars are not happy times. I think of Syria, Rhakine state in Myanmar, South Sudan and occupied Palestine. All just useless conflicts.

Apparently the term has some controversy. Google to see how people argue. Yeah, it was a lovely book. Thanks Kelebogile.

What an emotional roller coaster! I am not turned off by gore as I am a C/T/M/H addict, but I have a soft heart for innocent victims, especially children. Do I dare brave this book?

This is a very emotional review, Juliusotinyo! Congratulations for vividly depicting the story. It seems the author shook you to the core!

Molina,
Always glad to see your comments. Not much gore in this just the process of human cruelty. You'd be touched as well. Thanks for stopping by.

I remember you served, during the Matakwei days, this book still made you cry? I feel you on the Syrian case, I can't imagine how desperate life gets in a warzone. Especially when its just proxy wars and the citizens have little to do with that fight.

Yeah, I served. The horror we inflicted on those people...

War mongering people don't get to experience war first hand. They should, it's such a dark existence. Thanks for your comments Alicnim.

Interesting, though I'm not convinced I should read it even though I have an appreciation for history.

I had never heard about the Melungeons before. Sounds like they had their own community. Although I am interested in the Civil War theme and how the family went through it, I am not for reading about the abuse of children. However, I understand that it is an issue of the author probably being accurate.

Thanks for the excellent review!

Yolimari,
Yeah, I took the violence as accurate description of the period. I googled some of the characters like the Bushwhackers and their guerilla campaign. The settler-Amerindian conflicts, and found that she was accurate, definitely not a time to be around. Thanks for your kind comments.

It is clear from the review that you truly enjoyed the book. Nice review.

Perhaps, a useful conflict resolution tool by subjecting the reader to conflict! Thanks for your comments.
