This does sound like an enjoyable read with all the plots and sub-plots. I find I learn and remember a lot more historical and general knowledge when it comes as part of a great story. Nicely-written review!

A historical fiction tale revolving around a copyist that tried his hand at painting his own portraits sounds original. The combination of history, art, and romance makes this a worthy read for fans of the genre. That it gives info on historical artists adds another layer to the tale. While I enjoy art, I don't know much about it. This book seems informative on the subject. I like that there's romance in it. I'm wondering if the character was made to seem so childish as a purposeful character flaw or if it came across more than intended.
