I admire Grillo's honorable trait of taking in the helpless child and taking him to an orphanage. I believe every child deserves to live. Thanks for the review.

It’s good the wood cutter gave the baby a chance to live, even if it’s under a terrible condition. Great review!

The book was able to adequately capture the prejudice of people in relation to traditions and taboos

I wonder how it must feel to be called a curse from birth, only to live to endure hardships and abuse. I wonder if Malino would even find respite and how he'd scale through. The author has done a great job with this piece and I'd love to read it save for the many errors. Thanks for your review!

It must have been scary for Manilo. I hope he survives his tough world.

I have not read such a descriptive, emotional review in a long time. Orphans get the short end of the stick in a lot of societies. This book highlighting their plight and other societal injustices is a really good thing. I'd love to see what happens to Malino and how his life turns out.

Malino: The Orphan Road by Joseph R. Barry has an interesting plot and a protagonist, who for no fault of his own, has to undergo certain challenges from a young age through adulthood. I like some of the themes highlighted in the book. However, some of the themes are also off-putting.

This sounds like quite an interesting book. I'll give it a try. I'd like to see what kind of person Malino turns out to be as it seems he had a terrible childhood. Thanks for the review.

I love historical fiction, and this one seems to take a detailed approach in chronicling the oppressions of the time. I would like to know Malino's story. Thanks for the awesome review!

The coming-of-age story explores the economic and political oppression in Sicily during the 1900s. Congratulations on Book of the Day!

Malino:The Orphan Road's tale is a sad one.I cant Imagine growing up and experiencing slavery and oppression from those around me. But thats Malino's story. Everyone who cared for him was taken from him and he had to fend for himself. There are topics that make me cringe and make this novel x-rated.

The book would make a good read. The story revolves around the life of Malino. Would he survive into adulthood? Congrats on BOTD!

I am not sure if the woodcutter spares the life of the little boy for his own selfish reason or because he actually thinks he deserves to live. Would be fascinating to find out. I enjoyed reading your review. Well done.

That someone would view other people as a curse or an abomination based solely on their appearance breaks my heart. I want to read more because, according to the review, this book offers excellent insight into the subject. I appreciate it, and congratulations on BoTD.
