I wonder whether, on some level, the author has failed to communicate given your observations: ‘he is describing can be comprehended by none other than himself’ and ‘the thrills and horrors of war can only be understood by those who have been on the battlefield.’

"I miss war" might be a statement expected from an arms manufacturer. I am intrigued that a soldier would say that. What is behind Graydon's declaration? But I agree that it was a fantastic beginning to the story. The book is classified as fiction, but the review seems to indicate that it is a memoir.

A soldier's deployment will be described in this book. Written by someone who experienced it firsthand, it is humorous, wise, introspective, and detailed. Graydon combines intellectual prowess with grunt-style humor in his work, making it hard to put down. Absolutely, it's a great book. Congratulations on BOTD and a great review!

I like reading military history. Either Peace or War by Graydon McWilliams is about the experience of a young soldier deployed to fight a war. It will be interesting to find out why he used that opening words in the book.

The history in the book also appeals to me. The themes in the book seem equally appealing to me. I wonder why the author loves chaos. This will be a great read.

Well, somehow, I would understand why one would make such bold statement, "I miss war." In a way, war brings order, teaches discipline, brings up men, hardworking men. Yes, there is loss of lives, but we'll all die one day. It's how we live that makes us. It would be lovely to know more about this book. Nice review.

This seems to be a very informative book. However, military subjects don't fascinate me. Hence, I didn't flow with what was written in it. Congrats on being the BOTD.

The opening statement is indeed shocking to those of us who never fought for our country in that way. I guess with the complexity that is war none of us will truly understand until we walked that path.

I wonder why someone would say they miss war. And this interestingly call my attention to want more of this book so I can know what led to the author to say that.

In my opinion, it is impossible for someone to genuinely regret going to war. I learned a lot from this book, including the importance of never passing judgment on others. I enjoy the author's style of writing, and I have to admit that this book is ideal for me. Congratulations on BOTD!
