This is usually the case in politics, betray and greed, and conspiracy of all sort. I think though this book is set in ancient Egypt, it still mirrors our society today. Nothing really has changed. Nice book.

I am not really into historical fictions although I do hold a fascination for ancient civilisations. The plotline is quite unique as usually stories written depicting Egyptian era are almost always about Ramses and Nefertiti. Another interesting aspect is the authors attempt to draw comparisons between Egypt in 1350s and present times. I appreciate that author had chosen to discard elevated vocabulary and keep it simple with vernacular. This is a wonderful review, almost a benchmark for reviewers like me so congratulations for such a fantastically written review.

Once I pick up a book about historical fiction, it proves difficult for me to put it down. I enjoy reading books about ancient Egypt history. This is a particularly interesting book as we not only learn about ancient Egypt but also go through Lord Hani's relationship with his family.

I love it already! You are right, historical fiction about Egypt is rare. From your review I can already tell who my favorite character will be; Lord Hani. Wonderful review!

I have read about people being persecuted for their faith - in the Bible and places like that, butI never considered that it happens about other religions, just abstractly.

This is a historical fiction. It explores one of the most tumultuous times in Egyptian history, when religious reform turned friends into enemies..Lord Hani’s profession requires him to travel between major Egyptian cities, keeping the peace between the viziers and under-lords of the nation, while also attempting to solve a murder. With a family devoted to the gods and a king who forbids that they worship any but Aten, Lord Hani is impossibly stuck, and the time he has to free himself is almost spent. Emotionally charged story and a good book review. Congratulations on the BOTD!

This book sounds like it captures the essence of Egyptian history judging by this meticulous review. Although I'm not one to indulge in historical fiction because as you said in the review, reading history can be " detached and potentially boring". I'm however tempted to read this book because it sounds like a fantastic rendition of Egyptian history. The review makes one want to read the book right away.

Lord Hani seems to be in a dilemma. King's passing seem to have cause friction in the nation, and Hani having to solve murder adds up to an already thick mix. I love the ancient Egypt era because it is so eye-opening.

This book seems very interesting. History is fun to read and intertwining it with fiction enables us to imagine it better. I would really love to know how things end up with Lord Hani.

Wow, this is my first time of hearing this, what I know about Egypt is different from what I'm seeing here, this book sounds educative. I must read the book. Great review.
