I think this sounds like a wonderful novel. It takes place after World War II, so it has both historical fiction and coming-of-age aspect. I love how authentic the characters are! Congrats on the book of the day! Great review.

Historical fiction isn't one of the genres I seek out to read, so I will probably skip this one as well. However, it seems like the author has perfectly captured Australian life in the mid 20th century with added humor and relatable characters. I'm sure those who like the genre will find great enjoyment in reading it. Great review!

I love Linnane's stories. From the excitement and nostalgia surrounding newfangled washing machines and kerosene heaters, to the authentic loyalty and discord that's omnipresent among family members and neighbors, her literary contributions never disappoint. Can't wait to start reading this one!

I like the characters of Annie's parents, they are the characters that, the best today's parents can cleave for. Although there came differences between them and their neighbour, that doesn't mean they are bad as well. looking forward to reading the book, so intriguing. Again thanks for the review.

This seems like such a good read. I love hearing that characters are well-written, as stagnant characters tend to make a story dull. Great review!

It is so sad they couldn't reconcile their differences. However, the fact that history always bring something helpful with it makes the story a wonderful one. Great review!

Thank you for the wonderful review! Wow, I grew up in the era after WWII and I remember having ice delivered for our icebox (what we called it Instead of the ice chest, but the same thing)! We also did a lot of exploring outdoors and listening to the radio. I remember our first TV! This sounds like an awesome book and I can't wait to read it! :coffee1-smiley:

   Well written review. It doesn't seem like a fast paced book but the family dynamic plus their interaction with the community gives this book a sense of realness.
