I don't generally lack patience, but this sounds like a book that may stretch mine thin. I do sometimes (not for reviews, of course) skim read where I pick and choose how tuned in I am. Since the book is based on Asian historical times and events, I could learn quite a bit.

I am a fan of Korean series. Definitely, this book would be one I would lookout for. This is with the aim of discovering more about the history of Korean. I would also love to find out, if Korean writers are just as good. Thanks for the review.

The storyline has a great deal to do with Japan. Having lived there for two years, this point greatly piques my interest in the book. I found the sample of the book a bit wordy, but I still think that I will add it to my collection.

I love Asian dramas and this one seems like a K-drama in a book form. It would be enjoyable for me. Thanks for the review! I'll check this one out.

I also read this book a couple of years ago, and I enjoyed it for the most part. I agree with the criticisms you gave. The ending really seemed rushed when compared to the plodding pace throughout the rest of the novel. I wondered if the cliffhanger ending was meant to set up a sequel.

As you mentioned, the cultural and historical aspects are fully immersive. I learned a lot about how Korean culture and politics have changed over the past 100 years or so.

Thank you for your excellent review and analysis. :techie-studyingbrown:

It seems like "The Vanished" is more of a slow-build story that takes its time setting up the world and characters before the main action kicks in. Sounds like it jumps around a bit with different points of view and covers a long stretch of time, so probably not a super straightforward or fast-paced read. But if you’re into layered storytelling and historical backdrops, this book could be a great read.

The vanished seems enticing though I am not a lover of historic books this review makes it sound like a thrilling sci-fi book about rebellion. I have not seen many Asian history related books, this review provides a strong sense of what this book offers. Also I loved how the review mentioned a few of the impact full lines, really gives a sense of thrill.

First time seeing a Historical Korean story featured here. Embon is such a layered character. His personal journey somewhat mirrors Korea's broader struggle for identity. Even if the pacing stumbles a bit near the end, you can see Bradley's effort poured into this story.
I write the best reviews possible. :idea2:

Thanks for the detailed review. I like how the book shows both the history of Korea under Japanese rule and the personal struggles of the characters, especially Embon and Lady Sougyon. It’s good to know the story gives real cultural and political depth, even if the ending feels rushed. The shift in POVs and slow pacing might be tough, but I’m still interested because of the strong historical focus and emotional themes. This really sounds like a meaningful read for anyone who wants to learn more about Korea’s past.

Although I haven’t read the book yet, I’m intrigued by how the novel seems to blend personal stories with such a significant and painful chapter of Korean history. It sounds like a powerful but demanding read that offers a lot to reflect on, especially about freedom and identity.

The Vanished" by Pejay Bradley, a book that features Japan, its people, and a history of two decades. It will interesting to read about what happened in this tale of a nation and its people.

"The Vanished"sounds like a deeply emotional and eye-opening read. I don’t usually go for historical fiction, but something about Embon’s journey, his awakening, the fight for freedom, and the personal sacrifices, really pulls me in. Congrats BOTD!
